Why the Sheva Minim
Wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, dates – these seven fruits are from Eretz Yisrael. And Eretz Yisrael is the only place in the world that never lost its kedusha.
It says in Shema: keep My laws and the land will give you its fruit. It's hard to see the kedusha now because of our behavior, but it's still there. The land still has its holiness.
When we eat the sheva minim on Tu BiShvat and make the correct bracha with kavana, we're connecting to that kedusha. We're doing the tikkun.
The Right Bracha
When you eat for kedusha, not just to indulge – when you make the right bracha and eat with the intention to live and do H'shem's mitzvot – you fill the world with what it's missing.
Rosh Hashana L'Ilanot
Tu BiShvat is Rosh Hashanah for trees. We daven for the roots underground, for next year's etrog, for fruit that doesn't exist yet.
Man is like a tree because of its roots. The fruit is what the roots are made of. Our deeds, what we focus on, our behavior, what's important to us – those are our roots. Tu B'Shvat, we daven for strong roots so the "fruits" we produce will be good.
Do It with Love
Make your brachot with kavana. Connect to H'shem. Connect to the kedusha of Eretz Yisrael.
Tu BiShvat is the tikkun. Do it right.
