Good advice, but not a new idea.
Tony Robbins, the famous motivator, said on a podcast that the quickest way to dispel fear or anger is through gratitude. You can't have both of those emotions at the same time. He's right.
And this is something that we as Jews have been practicing for thousands of years. There's a reason why, before you do anything, you recite your morning blessings, thanking G-d for the simplest things - from being able to use the bathroom to being able to see and stand up straight.
If you realize all you have, what you are angry or afraid of won't necessarily go away, but you will have a different perspective and the strength to deal with it.
I think it goes even deeper. Rav Fanger says, if what you want your life to look like doesn't match the life you are living, happiness is impossible. You need to become real with the reality you are living, and although it may not have been what you thought you wanted, it is what G-d says you need.
